Balance the hotspots with local insider tips

Travel Europe like a local

Guess what? I just booked my ticket to Madrid! In 3 weeks I'm off to Spain for the second time.

My travel philosophy may be a bit different than other Creators you know. My differentiator is experiencing Europe like a local – an approach that demands revisiting countries repeatedly, diving deep into their culture and uncovering the best of the main attractions, but more importantly the beautiful experiences that only locals know about.

Madrid's usually a quick stop for most travellers, like 3-4 days tops. But not for me! I'm planning on two weeks. Why? Because I want to go beyond the famous stuff everyone sees. I'm here to dig into the neighbourhoods and find the things only locals know about.

Expect updates on the top hotspots, sure, but also get ready for the inside scoop on hidden spots and awesome eats that aren't in the guidebooks.

Speaking of guidebooks, that's usually where I share all of that insider information. Purchase a digital Destination Guide from me and know you are getting a comprehensive overview, the best travel tips and information you need to travel like a local.

✈️TRAVEL HACK

  • I make a Post-it with the address of the place I am staying before my flight touches down. Upon landing, I immediately hand it to my Taxi Driver as s/he takes my bags. It saves time worrying about language issues. And, the driver keeps it and adds it to their GPS.

✈️TRAVEL ADVICE

  • Reduce your germs! Protect yourself as much as possible by using disinfecting wipes on your hands and your airplane seat once you get settled (the tray and seat buckle are the most ridden with germs). Because they're not liquid, like hand sanitizer, wipes will also not count toward your carry-on liquid limit.

Access the full list of recommended Travel Planning Resources on my website, but here are a few of my all-time favourites:

  • For my hotel, flights, and car rentals use Expedia
  • To get around Europe, I always travel by train, and if not possible I will rent a car
  • For accommodations, my first choice is always Plum Guide. If I don't see anything available, my following two choices are VRBO (the same properties on Airbnb, but without the added booking fees) or Booking.com for quick hotel stays
  • Pre-book entrance tickets and tours with Get Your Guide

Travel entry: March 16, 2024 A love letter to Paris How to fall in love with Paris For many, uttering "Paris" immediately conjures images of the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre, defining the city through its iconic monuments and museums.Personally, my love of Paris lies in the subtleties—the street signs, lamp posts, park chairs, and quaint bistro tables spilling onto the streets. I love the first bite of a croissant, the crunch of a baguette, and hearing the noise of the city streets. I find...
